Detailed Guide: Easily Use Internet Explorer on Windows 11
Are you having trouble accessing some older websites on Windows 11? Don't worry, you can still use Internet Explorer (IE) even though Microsoft has discontinued this browser. This article will guide you on how to enable IE mode in Microsoft Edge so you can continue browsing smoothly.
Internet Explorer (IE) was once the web browser used by over 90% of users. Years ago, most large companies, organizations, and even government agencies invested in creating complex web applications that ran on IE. Later, Microsoft completely replaced IE with a new web browser, Edge, on Windows 11. As a result, some older websites may not function properly on a Windows 11 computer.
How to Use Internet Explorer on Windows 11
Windows 10 still has a built-in version of Internet Explorer. However, you won’t find this browser in Windows 11 anymore. The way to access websites that require Internet Explorer is to use Internet Explorer Mode in Windows 11 through Edge. Here’s how:
Step 1: Access the Edge Browser Settings
To browse websites that require Internet Explorer on Windows 11, you need to open the Edge browser. This is the browser that comes pre-installed on the latest version of Windows, and you can find it on the Taskbar.
Next, click the three dots on the right side of the top menu bar and select Settings.
Step 2: Find the Default Browser Setting to Use Internet Explorer Mode
Now, click on Default Browser located in the left pane of the Edge settings page. As the name suggests, this section includes options to make Edge the default browser on Windows 11. However, it also provides you with settings related to Internet Explorer Mode.
Step 3: Allow Websites to Be Browsed in Internet Explorer
In the left pane of the default browser settings page, you have two options to access websites that require IE to function in Edge. Under the setting Allow sites to be reloaded in Internet Explorer mode (IE mode), you can choose Default or Allow (selecting Don’t allow will prevent you from browsing the web in IE).
Step 4: Choose How and When Websites Will Be Browsed in IE
The Default setting will show the option to open Edge in IE mode if you have previously opened a website in this mode.
If you select Allow, you will be able to click the Restart button from the Settings menu to reload the website in Internet Explorer.
After that, you will see an option Open link in new Internet Explorer mode tab when you right-click on an open tab in Edge.
When opening a website in Internet Explorer mode, you will see a notification about the mode with a switch to always use IE mode for that site. You may also see a bar at the top of the page indicating that you should use Edge for safer browsing compared to IE.
With the above instructions, you can easily use Internet Explorer on Windows 11 through the IE mode in Microsoft Edge. Remember, this is only a temporary solution for older websites, and you should switch to using more modern browsers for the best experience.
