To choose a hosting service suitable for your website, you must understand the basic knowledge about hosting. Let's explore more through this article!

What is Hosting?

Simply put, once you've finished building a web page, you need to have a place to put the source code of that webpage. The place to put this source code is commonly referred to as Hosting.

Where is Hosting created from?

Hosting is a part of the resources that are shared by the server. Basically, a server configured with all the necessary services will have the rights distributed. When you subscribe or buy a hosting service, you will be given the information to access this shared resource.

Types of Hosting

1. Shared Hosting

This is a type of hosting that stores numerous websites on a single server connected to the Internet, where each website has its own partition.

Its advantages are that it is quite cheap and intuitive, with a cPanel that is very easy to use.

Its disadvantages are that resources are limited, such as CPU and bandwidth constraints, capacity restrictions. It's suitable for websites with low traffic and minimal storage data.

2. Virtual Private Server (VPS)

VPS is a method of partitioning a physical server into multiple virtual servers, each virtual server becomes a separate computer with its own operating system.

Its advantages are high speed, high security, high customization, where you can freely install various services as per usage needs.

Its disadvantages are that its price is a bit higher, but I think it is negligible. You should have some knowledge about computers like using a Linux operating system... because most people use Linux. Another consideration is when using VPS, all data will be managed by you, so you will be responsible when data is lost. My advice is that you should use an additional daily backup service for safety.

VPS is suitable for large websites, with high traffic.

Personally, I'm using this type of service from Vultr, you can register here to try it out. I feel it's quite stable and cheap, with many promotions. On your first-time registration, they give you $50 to test.

3. Dedicated Server

This is a more advanced option than VPS, instead of hiring a virtual server, this type is to hire a real server with high configuration. Its usage is almost similar to VPS.

Pros are better security and obviously faster speed, with more resources.

Cons are that you need to have a lot of knowledge about computers, it's hard to use and expensive. Like VPS, you have to be responsible for your own data.

It's suitable for large corporations owning high traffic websites.

VPS

4. Cloud Hosting

This is a type of hosting that has become popular in recent years, but it has overcome some drawbacks of VPS and dedicated hosting, raising efficiency manifold.

Cloud Hosting is a web hosting system using cloud computing. It can be understood that there are many servers forming a network, which we call cloud computing. Your source code will be saved on those clouds.

Pros are that the price is not too high, just equal to the VPS service type, and its usage is pretty similar to VPS. The biggest strength is that even if a server in that network crashes, it doesn't much affect your website.

Cons are that your data does not lie in any specific location, so it's unknown whether your data is well secured. The system is so big that when support is needed, it will take a lot of time.

It's suitable for large corporations owning high traffic websites.

In addition, there are some Hostings specifically serving websites with WordPress source code, I will continue to write in the next post.
