HMD Skyline: The Return of Nokia Lumia, but Modernized
Anyone who has ever owned a Nokia Lumia will remember the unique and durable design. Now, HMD Global has revived that spirit with the HMD Skyline.
Recently, HMD Global introduced a new mid-range smartphone called the HMD Skyline. Although the device does not carry the Nokia brand name, its design is heavily inspired by classic Nokia phones, evoking a sense of nostalgia for users.
Specifically, the HMD Skyline draws design inspiration from the Nokia N9 and Lumia 920. It features a square frame, softly rounded edges, and a robust aluminum casing. This design not only provides a comfortable grip but also ensures durability. The device comes in two color options: black and pink. The version showcased here is the pink one, which is particularly suitable for female users.
One of the most remarkable features of the HMD Skyline is its ease of self-repair. With its Gen2 Repairability design, users can disassemble the device using just a small screwdriver and a guitar pick. Replacing parts like the screen and battery is extremely simple and quick, taking less than 10 minutes. This not only saves repair costs but also reduces electronic waste, contributing to environmental protection.
The HMD Skyline is equipped with a 6.55-inch P-OLED display, FHD+ resolution, a 144 Hz refresh rate, and 1,000 nits brightness, delivering a smooth and sharp visual experience. The display also features a "hole-punch" design with a high-quality 50MP selfie camera. From the front, the design is reminiscent of the legendary Nokia phones of the past, looking incredibly sleek and eye-catching.
In terms of hardware, the HMD Skyline uses the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chip, paired with either 8 GB or 12 GB of RAM and 128 GB or 256 GB of internal storage. This configuration is powerful enough to handle everyday tasks smoothly and to play games at medium to high settings. The device also supports 5G connectivity, providing fast and stable internet access.
The HMD Skyline features an impressive camera system with a 108 MP main camera, a 50 MP telephoto camera, and a 13 MP ultra-wide camera. The front camera is 50 MP and includes autofocus, supporting high-quality selfies. Photography features such as 2x optical zoom, 4x lossless zoom, and portrait mode help users capture sharp and detailed photos.
The device is powered by a 4,600 mAh battery, supporting 33W fast charging and 15W wireless charging. It runs on Android 14 with a near-stock Google interface, offering a smooth user experience.
The HMD Skyline is priced around 499 EUR in the European market. However, this smartphone is distributed quite limitedly in a few markets and is not widely available.
