Depending on the position and reason for their appearance, there are different ways to delete a page in Word. After finishing drafting in Word, remember to check once and remove any blank pages to ensure the continuity of your writing.

Blank pages might appear in your document due to accidentally pressing Enter multiple times, through Section Break or Page Break actions, or after editing following the insertion of a large table, etc.

Here are 4 ways to delete pages in Word that you can apply to all Office 2010, 2013, 2016 suites.

1. Delete a page in Word using the Delete key

The Delete key is used to erase characters behind the cursor. To delete a Word page using the Delete key, you need to place the cursor at the end of the page immediately before the page you want to delete. Then press Delete several times until the page you want to delete is gone.

Example: If you need to delete page 8 of the document, place the cursor at the end of page 7.

If the page to be deleted is blank, you only need to press Delete 2-3 times to complete.

If the page to be deleted contains text, you should highlight and delete all the text before placing the cursor and pressing Delete.

The Delete key is suitable for deleting pages in the middle or at the end of a document.

2. Delete a page in Word using the Backspace key

The Backspace key is used to erase characters in front of the cursor. To delete a Word page with this key, first, you have to place the cursor at the beginning of the page immediately after the page you want to delete.

Example: If you need to delete page 5 of the document, place the cursor at the start of page 6.

If the page to be deleted is blank, pressing the Backspace button once will remove it.

If the page to be deleted contains content, you should highlight and delete all the text on the page. Then, place the cursor and press Backspace.

The Backspace key is suitable for deleting pages at the beginning or in the middle of a document.

3. Delete a page in Word using the key combination Shift + Delete or Shift + Backspace

This method of deleting a page is similar to using the Delete or Backspace key. Deleting a page using the key combinations Shift + Delete, Shift + Backspace allows you to control what is deleted, avoiding accidentally pressing Delete/Backspace multiple times and erasing document content.

  • Step 1: Place the cursor at the end of the page immediately before the page to be deleted.
  • Step 2: Hold the Shift key and move the cursor to the end of the page to be deleted.
  • Step 3: Release the Shift key. If the page has text, you will see the part to be deleted highlighted. You can adjust what needs to be deleted by holding the Shift key and changing the cursor's position.
  • Step 4: Press Delete/Backspace, and the highlighted part will be erased.

The Shift + Delete, Shift + Backspace key combinations are also very useful for deleting a long paragraph of text on a page or a blank space within a page.

When drafting a document in Word, after using the Page Break or Section Break functions, a blank page often appears immediately after the section break. Then, you need to use the Paragraph tool to delete the page without deleting the Page or Section formatting.
