What is Chromium web browser?
While Google Chrome is very familiar to internet users, Chromium remains relatively unknown. Therefore, in this article, I will introduce you to the Chromium project, explore what the Chromium browser is, and consider whether you should use Chromium as a replacement for Google Chrome or other web browsers.
What is Chromium?
Chromium is an open-source browser project that serves as the base for Chromium-based browsers. The Chromium project was launched to create a secure, fast, and stable web browser to provide users with the best possible experience.
Chromium is the foundation for other Chromium-based browsers like Cốc Cốc, Opera, and Microsoft Edge. Because of this, these browsers can usually use the same set of tools and extensions as Google Chrome.
Features of Chromium
Advantages:
- Attractive and user-friendly interface because it is similar to Google Chrome.
- Excellent support for Google's search engine and good synchronization with Google accounts.
- Very fast web browsing and resource-efficient.
- Supports security systems, especially the Sandbox method, which helps limit malware spread, and does not store browsing data like passwords and cookies.
Disadvantages:
- Does not support codecs such as AAC, H.264, and MP3, limiting the ability to view some media.
- Does not display error reports; users have to handle this manually.
- Does not support user measurement features.
- Does not support automatic browser updates.
- On some Linux versions, the Sandbox feature is not automatically enabled.
- Users of Windows and macOS may find it challenging to use because all operations must be done manually.
Should You Use Chromium?
As mentioned, Chromium is open-source with many specialized features that Linux users and open-source software enthusiasts will likely enjoy, as they can experiment with and explore the latest features of the web browser.
However, if you are a regular user on Windows or macOS, using Chromium can be quite cumbersome. These two operating systems do not receive official updates from Chromium, and you will have to go through several steps to install the latest version. Meanwhile, Google Chrome, with its automatic updates and a feature set that is not too different from Chromium, will be more convenient for you.
How to Install Chromium
Step 1: Go to download Chromium > Select downloadchromium.
Step 2: Open the downloaded .rar file > Select chrome-win.
Step 3: Select chrome.exe to open Chromium.
The above information provides some insights into Chromium. I hope this article offers you useful information. Thank you for following.
