OPPO Find X8: The Return of the Physical Capture Button, Directly Competing with the iPhone 16
OPPO has drawn inspiration from the iPhone 16 by equipping the Find X8 with a physical capture button. However, OPPO promises to deliver unique and superior improvements with this feature.
While the aforementioned X model isn’t explicitly named here, OPPO has quickly "jumped on the trend" of incorporating one of its standout features—something that is sure to spark controversy. However, before diving into that, it’s worth noting that Sony phones have had this feature for a long time. So, if there’s any copying involved, it might be Apple "learning" from Sony, and OPPO is simply continuing this tradition.
Back to the point, the upcoming OPPO Find X8 flagship series will be equipped with a capture button, similar to those on the X models and Sony devices. OPPO might refer to it as the "Quick Button," but its positioning clearly indicates that it’s primarily designed to make photo-taking more convenient.
According to a machine-translated slide describing the button's function, it will also be used in gaming. When using the camera, users can swipe their finger across this button to zoom, suggesting that it won’t be a physical button but rather a touch-sensitive one, possibly paired with a haptic engine (either the phone’s default engine or a separate one for this feature).
The swipe gesture will also work in photo gallery apps, allowing for zooming in and out. Users can tap lightly to lock focus when taking a photo, then press harder to capture the shot. By default, you can press to take a photo and hold to record video, but hopefully, more options will be available.
