Nintendo Gamers Disappointed: Switch 2 Might Launch Later Than Expected
Fans of Nintendo will need to wait longer for the release of the Switch 2. Rumors suggesting that Nintendo’s new gaming console would launch in early 2025 have been dispelled by the latest expert insights.
According to Chris Dring, head of GamesIndustry.biz, it’s likely that the successor to the Nintendo Switch (temporarily referred to as "Switch 2") will not be released in early 2025 as many had hoped. In the latest podcast episode from the site (as reported on VGC), Dring mentioned that game developers have not been informed by Nintendo about Switch 2 launching in the company’s current fiscal year. This implies that the earliest gamers can expect the console would be April 1, 2025 (after Nintendo’s fiscal year ends on March 31, 2025).
He further explained, "In fact, developers [whom Dring spoke with] have been told not to expect Switch 2 to launch within the [current] fiscal year." "Many of them are hoping the device will be released around April or May, meaning early next year rather than late."
It’s important to clarify that the delay in Switch 2’s expected release is not technically a "postponement," as Nintendo has never made any official announcement about the console’s launch date. In reality, the console itself hasn’t even been officially revealed by Nintendo. The Japanese game developer has only hinted at announcing a new gaming device within the current fiscal year. Previously, the Nintendo Switch was unveiled in October 2016 and officially reached consumers in early March 2017. That was a relatively quick release timeline, and Nintendo could potentially use a similar strategy for Switch 2. This means we might not hear any additional information about the console until the end of this year.
However, these leaks and speculations remain predictions, and Nintendo’s plans are still a mystery to the gaming community. Despite this, in a recent move, Nintendo has introduced a series of exciting new games for the current Switch console (including Metroid Prime 4), with some of these titles set to be released in 2025. In other words, the Switch gaming community will have plenty of thrilling games to enjoy while waiting for the new console.
