Apple Watch Series 10 and Ultra 2 in Black: Worthy Upgrades for Tech Enthusiasts
The Apple Watch Series 10 impresses with its lightweight design, 40% brighter OLED display, and numerous health features, such as sleep apnea detection. Meanwhile, the black Satin Apple Watch Ultra 2 stands out with its rugged, durable look and professional sports features.
At the It’s Glowtime event held on the morning of September 10 in the U.S., alongside the iPhone 16, Apple introduced several other devices or upgraded versions of existing models.
Among them, the Apple Watch Series 10 is seen as a 10th-anniversary edition, celebrating Apple’s entry into the smartwatch market—a brand-new product introduced after Tim Cook became CEO. However, the 10th generation Apple Watch doesn’t differ much from recent versions.
The device expands its screen size to 42mm and 46mm, up from the 41mm and 45mm on the Watch Series 9. Despite being larger, The Verge notes that it doesn’t feel bulky on the wrist due to its slim profile. Apple claims it is nearly 10% thinner and 10% lighter compared to the Watch Series 7, Series 8, and Series 9.
The device features an aluminum casing in various colors, including jet black, rose gold, silver, natural titanium, gold, and gray. The black model stands out with an eye-catching glossy finish.
Apple has significantly increased the brightness of the new smartwatch. According to the American company, the Apple Watch Series 10 is 40% brighter than its predecessor. It is also the first Apple Watch equipped with an OLED display capable of optimizing each pixel, offering higher brightness and a wider viewing angle while being more energy-efficient. Apple states that the watch has an 18-hour battery life, with fast charging that provides 8 hours of use after just 15 minutes of charging, or 8 hours of sleep tracking with just 8 minutes of charging, and an 80% charge in 30 minutes.
The Apple Watch Series 10 runs watchOS 11, which includes several new watch faces compatible with the larger screen. The device is powered by the thinner S10 chip, but with higher performance, and includes a 4-core Neural Engine that supports intelligent features like double-tap gestures, crash detection, fall detection, and translation. With both a speaker and a microphone, the smartwatch can take calls when connected to an iPhone or play music.
Another standout feature of the Apple Watch is sleep apnea detection. It also has several underwater features, including depth and water temperature sensors, 50-meter water resistance, automatic swim stroke detection, and lap counting. watchOS 11 also introduces custom workouts specifically for pool swimming.
Meanwhile, instead of introducing the next-generation Watch Ultra, Apple unveiled a new color for the Watch Ultra 2, named Satin Black. Since the Ultra was launched only about a year ago, Apple isn’t rushing to introduce the third-generation Ultra just yet.
Compared to the previous silver edition, the new color gives the device a unified look thanks to the jet-black coating. According to Apple, the new casing is made from recycled Grade 5 titanium through a new sandblasting process. The device comes with a matching black titanium Milanese Loop band to complement the watch’s color.
Other than the new case, the hardware of the Satin Black Watch Ultra 2 is largely unchanged from the Ultra 2. Its features are similar to the Watch Series 10, including sleep apnea detection, live activity tracking on the watch face, media playback through the built-in speaker, personal coaching, and advanced fitness tracking.
The Apple Watch Series 10 starts at $436, with the titanium case priced from $796. Meanwhile, the black titanium Watch Ultra 2 is priced at $916.

I was hoping for more changes in the Watch Ultra 2. Apart from the black color, it doesn’t seem that different from the first Ultra.
