Warning: 5 Dangerous Android Apps, Stealing Money from Bank Accounts
Bad news for Android users! Google has just removed five apps that pose a risk of stealing money directly from your bank account. If you have accidentally installed any of these apps, delete them immediately to safeguard your assets.
Security experts have discovered a new, extremely dangerous malware called Mandrake. This malware can silently infiltrate your phone, stealing personal information and even the money in your bank account.
Here’s how it works:
When users install apps containing Mandrake, the malware silently downloads malicious components to the device.
It then connects to an external server and begins sending the victim’s phone information to hackers, including data on the device, screen activity recordings, and even reading text messages.
The malware can also create fake upgrade notifications on the user’s smartphone to trick them into installing additional malicious apps.
This is why some of the apps containing the Mandrake malware that were recently discovered have been on Google Play for over two years and have tens of thousands of downloads.
Kaspersky reports that Mandrake primarily infects users in countries including the UK, Canada, Germany, Italy, and Mexico.
According to Kaspersky's security experts, the five apps containing the Mandrake malware that were recently discovered include:
- AirFS
- Astro Explorer
- Amber
- CryptoPulsing
- Brain Matrix
Kaspersky has notified Google about their findings, and these five apps have now been removed from the app store. However, users who previously downloaded these apps still need to remove them from their phones.
Experts advise smartphone and tablet users to be cautious and only install apps from trusted sources to ensure the safety of their devices.
Regularly update your operating system and mobile apps. Install and use genuine antivirus software. Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) on your online accounts to add an extra layer of security.
Before installing an app on a smartphone, users should carefully read the permissions the app requests to prevent malicious apps from accessing private data on the device.
